What makes us Different?

The Respectful Relationships program supports schools and early childhood settings to promote and model respect, positive attitudes and behaviours. It teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence. The Respectful Relationships whole-school approach recognises that schools are a workplace, a community hub and a place of learning. Everyone involved in our school community deserves to be respected, valued and treated equally. We know that changes in attitudes and behaviours can be achieved when positive attitudes, behaviours and equality are lived across the school community, and when classroom learning is reinforced by what is modelled in our school community. The Respectful Relationships program links well with our positive Education initiative.
At the International School of Western Australia, our curriculum programs and teaching are designed to prepare students for life and is delivered in a manner that supports and promotes the principles and practice of democracy, including a commitment to elected government; the rule of law; equal rights for all before the law; freedom of religion; freedom of speech and association, and the values of openness and tolerance.

At the International School of Western Australia, we take pride in our safe, calm and orderly environment which is a pre-condition for focused learning. A rubric of our school is our Positive Education initiative. Positive Education is taught explicitly at all year levels and seeks to build on each individual’s character strengths and to promote a growth mindset particularly in relation to learning. Recognizing that mental health is a significant issue amongst our young people, Positive Education provides tools and skills for all students to manage challenging situations in their lives and set them up to flourish. Having a positive (growth) mindset is a skill that can be learned and therefore, taught. We work hard to create a culture where students are reflective. We strongly believe that the key to a happy and successful education is the quality of the relationships that are formed between all members of the school community. We see learning as a shared and collaborative process with parents, teachers and the broader community working together with students to achieve desired outcomes.

Linked to our Positive Education Program is our Community Engagement program which has the aim of every student participating in a community service project annually. Programs are linked to existing IIHS community development programs with a focus on community health & wellbeing, and students will be awarded for their participation at our annual awards evening.
